Seam Finish for a Shirt with a Side Vent

This technique is courtesy of Sandra Betzina. This technique relies on the seam allowance and the vent turn-back being the same width.

  1. Sew the 5/8" side seam down to the top of the vent.
  2. Press the seam open, continuing down to press open the vent turn-back along the 5/8" line.
  3. Flip the shirt so that you can fold a seam allowance to the wrong side to meet the stitching line and press. Do the same with the other seam allowance. Press hard.
  4. Edgestitch in place.
